Heather Holmes
 

Co-Director
in memoriam 

A pillar of the Winston Salem-area volleyball community, Heather helped found TCVA in 2015.  Her legacy will be carried on by Twin City Volleyball Academy, and our top teams in age groups 13-18 will be named HKH in her honor. 
 


Jan Dowling




Head Coach 

18 HKH

Jan is entering her third year with Twin City Volleyball Academy. Jan assisted with 15 Royal during her first season with TCVA, and was Co-Head Coach of 17 Royal in 2018-2019.  She has served as the head volleyball coach at West Rowan High School, one of the top programs in the state, regardless of class, since 2015, where she is a Physical Education teacher.

Prior to arriving at TCVA, Jan was a coach at High Rock Volleyball Cub for 8 years. She also has head coach stops a Anson County for two seasons, and 14 years at South Rowan.

Brandon

Amber is a graduate of East Carolina University where she majored in Biology and Science Education and is currently a science teacher at Davie High School, where she has been the varsity volleyball coach since the 2016 season.

Amber has worked as a head coach for several age groups with TCVA, including 14s and 16s.

Caleb Gilley

Recruiting Coordinator

  
Caleb returns for his second season with TCVA.  In his first season, Caleb was the head coach of 16 Black.  The 2019-2020 season will also mark Caleb's first year as TCVA's Recruiting Coordinator, where he will work closely with those athletes who wish to pursue volleyball beyond high school. 

Since 2011, Caleb has coached the East Surry High School volleyball team. In that time, Caleb guided the Cardinals to an NCHSAA 1A state championship runner-up finish in 2014.

Additionally, Caleb serves as the head women’s basketball coach at East Surry. A graduate of Penn State University, Caleb is currently pursuing his NC Real Estate License.

Tabatha Lyons 


Head Coach

Tabatha is entering her fourth season with TCVA after coaching at Set Point Volleyball Club for three seasons.

Tabatha played volleyball for 11 years: at Mt. Tabor High School (2005-2009, 2008 State Runner-Up), Players Edge Volleyball Club, and with the club team at North Carolina State University (2009-2013).

She has been coaching at Mt. Tabor High School since 2013 and is the Head JV and assistant Varsity coach.

When not in the gym, Tabatha works full time for her family's business in Winston Salem.

Katelyn Markle 


Assistant Coach

Katelyn is entering her first year with TCVA.  She has been an assistant coach at East Surry High School since 2015.

Prior to joining, Twin City,  she coached with Surry Storm Volleyball Club in the 14s and 15s age groups since 2012.  

Currently, Katelyn is a Work Management Technician with Pike Electric.

Justin Burgess

Boys' Program Director 
Justin is a graduate of N.C. State University where he earned degrees in horticulture and agriculture business. While at State, he competed with the men’s club volleyball team as a middle and outside hitter.

His coaching credentials include stints as head coach for several clubs including North Carolina Volleyball Academy, Set Point Volleyball Club, and High Rock Volleyball Club.

Justin coached at Davidson Community College from 2011-2015, earning recognition as Region X Conference Coach of the Year and District H Coach of the Year in 2014. He lead Davidson to an undefeated conference record and an Elite 8 appearance in the NJCAA National Championship in Rochester, Minnesota. While at Davidson he coached two NJCAA All-Americans, two Conference Player of the Year recipients, and 11 Region X All-Conference players.

Burgess is also a very accomplished open level outdoor and indoor player winning multiple tournaments along with three top ten performances at the USA Volleyball Open National Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Dallas, Texas.

Burgess has been a head coach at TCVA since 2017.

Lauren Gillon 


Co-Head Coach

Lauren graduated from Appalachian State University where she played club volleyball and earned a degree in Exercise Science. She is currently a science teacher at West Forsyth High School and is in her 10th season as the Head Volleyball Coach.

She is entering her fourth season with TCVA. Prior to joining TCVA, Lauren coached for four years with Set Point Volleyball Club in Winston-Salem.

Trevor Hewitt 


Head Coach

Club Director 
Trevor was the director of Sportsplex Volleyball Club (2008-2014) and volleyball director of the Greensboro Sportsplex (2006-2014). He served as head varsity volleyball coach at Walter Hines Page High School in Greensboro from 2006-2018.

Previous to his time at Page, Trevor was the assistant volleyball coach at Guilford College for the 2005 season. Trevor served as a head coach with Piedmont Volleyball Club from 2006-2012. He has extensive experience with the Carolina Region High Performance Volleyball Program as head and assistant coach of various age group teams from 2005-2010, and 2014-2015 and USA Volleyball High Performance as national tryouts court coach, evaluator, and camp director 2006-2011.

Before moving to North Carolina from Delaware in 2005, Trevor worked with the Brandywine Volleyball Club as a head coach to both girls' and boys' teams from 2001-2005. His high school stops include Thomas McKean High School, as the girls’ varsity volleyball head coach, 2003-2004 and boys’ varsity volleyball head coach, 2003-2005; Salesianum High School, boys’ varsity assistant coach, 2001-2002; John Dickinson High School boys’ varsity assistant coach, 1998-2000.

Ashton Gregory 
 

Assistant Coach

Ashton joins TCVA for the 2019-2020 season after a standout junior and collegiate career. 

She helped lead Starmount High School to the 2010 NCHSAA 2A State title, picking up the 2A MVP honors in addition to the state title.  She was twice named the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Player of the Year (2011 & 2012).

Ashton spent her first two seasons of her collegiate career at Furman where she was named the 2013 SoCon Freshman of the Year, and  following her sophomore campaign, the 2014 SoCon Player of the Year.  Additionally, she earned recognition being named to the 2014 AVCA East Coast All-Regional Team and was a 2014 Honorable-Mention All-American

After transferring, Ashton spent her final two collegiate seasons at Appalachian State University, where she was named to the 2015 All-Sunbelt Team, and was a 2015 AVCA SouthEastern All-Region Team Honorable-Mention nominee.  

Following her collegiate career, she returned home and has spent her time coaching.  She has served as the JV coach at Starmount High School since 2017 and coached with Yadkin Valley Volleyball Club for 3 seasons 2017-2019.

Rakel Wilson
 


Co-Head Coach

Originally from Maryland, Rakel is a graduate of UNC Greensboro where she earned a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in coaching.  She joined TCVA in 2017, serving as coach of 15 Black the past two seasons, and helping with TCVA Academy programs. 

While at UNCG she played on the club volleyball team and served as a manager for the UNCG volleyball team. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Physician Assistant studies.

Rylee Wilson 
 

Co-Head Coach

As standout hitter at Northwest Guilford High School and a TCVA alumni (Class of 2018), Rylee is currently pursuing a degree in nursing as a member of the WSSU volleyball team, where she is playing as a setter.

Rylee joined the TCVA coaching staff in 2018 as an assistant with 14 Royal.

Kelly Byrd
 


Head Coach

12 Royal 
Kelly received her Bachelors & Masters degrees in Education from UNC Charlotte. She has been teaching special education for over 25 years.

She has taught at North Davidson Middle for 16 years where she coached the volleyball team for five years. Additionally, she serves as the assistant coach at North Davidson High. 

Kelly has served as the 12s team head coach with TCVA since 2016.

Alex Postpischil
 


Lead Trainer

12s -14s 
Alex is in his fourth year with TCVA. He is currently head coach at Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville.  Prior to his time with the Furies, Alex assisted at Piedmont International University. In 2018 the Bruins were the Southern Region Champions and a participant in the
NCCAA National Championship.

Before joining PIU, Alex was the Assistant Coach at WSSU for 5 years.  At WSSU he helped guide the Rams to two CIAA Division Titles, two CIAA Conference Championships, one CIAA Conference Runner-Up and two third-place finishes. The two Conference Championships took the team to the NCAA DII Tournament. The WSSU team had a 95-57 overall record and a 69-11 record in the CIAA. The two CIAA titles in 2015 and 2017 were the first in WSSU history.

Alex has coached at a variety of levels, including WSSU, Salem, Maryland, Creighton, and at UNC-Greensboro, and has coached within the Carolina Region HP program and USAV HP. He has also had several high school coaching positions and coached with several juniors programs. He has been a regional referee and holds a CAP Level II (Indoor) and Beach CAP Level I coaching certification from USA Volleyball.

He is 1990 graduate of UNC Greensboro where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Design/Technology and a 2000 graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Technology.

Rachel Ruble

Rachel graduated from Brevard College in 2018 where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Business and Organizational Leadership. She played as a middle blocker for Brevard College during their NCAA Div. II era, where the program competed in the South Atlantic Conference.

She is a graduate of Davie County High School and former player at Set Point Volleyball Club. Rachel joined the West Forsyth High School volleyball program in 2018 as the head JV coach and varsity assistant.

Sarah Egbers

Sarah is entering her second year with Twin City following a nine-year prep career playing for Top Select Volleyball Academy in Orlando, Florida, one of the Sunshine State’s best junior clubs.  Sarah served as the head coach for 17 White, based in Greensboro, last season.  

Currently, Sarah is a senior opposite at Greensboro College. Prior to arriving to the Pride, she played at Indian River State College.

Meghan Mutter
 


Co-Head Coach

15 Royal 
Meghan joins the coaching staff at TCVA after a successful prep playing career.  She played volleyball for seven years, having spent time playing at as a libero with West Forsyth High School, Set Point Volleyball Club, Champion Volleyball Club, and sand volleyball with Beach South.  She continued playing collegiately at Chowan University as a defensive specialist.  

She first began coaching at Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club with the 16s team while at Chowan.  

Currently, Meghan is pursuing a degree in Radiology from Forsyth Technical Community College.

Howard

Tenaé earned her bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and a masters degree in Elementary Education from Gardner-Webb University.

For the past 9 years, she has been a mathematics and science teacher at Central Davidson Middle School. From 2015-2019, Tenae has served as the head coach for Central Davidson Middle School’s volleyball team, before taking over as the head coach for North Davidson High School.

Tenaé was the head coach of 12 Black during her first season with TCVA.

Head Coach

13 Black 
Colby transitions from long-time TCVA club player to coach for the 2019-2020 season.  Prior to join the coaching staff, Colby played for many current TCVA coach over the past five seasons, two with Set Point Volleyball Club and three with TCVA, including two years on TCVA 18 Royal.  

Following a stand-out prep career at Forbush High School, she now attends Surry County Community College where she pursuing an Associate in Science and playing on the volleyball team.  While at Forbush, Colby was named the Western Piedmont Athletic Conference Player of the Year her senior season, and was also recognized as the Best fo Preps Volleyball Player of the Year.

Tammi Lichty

Tammi is entering her second year as a coach with TCVA.  During the 2018-2019 season, Tammi was an assistant 12 Black and 14 Bros.  Tammi enjoys working with young athletes new to volleyball, teaching them the fundamental skills, and watching them develop through the sport.

Tammi is a graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where she played basketball for three years.  Currently an office manager for Nitor Solutions, she stays busy working full-time and attending her four children's activities.  Her older daughter Madie, a senior at West Forsyth will attend Florida Gulf Coast University to play beach volleyball.  Her twin sons play sports as well; Nolan enjoys soccer, while Hayden competes with TCVA's boys' program.  Younger daughter Hadley also competes with TCVA in the 12 & under age group.

Lauren Evans


Training Coach 
Lauren graduated from UNC Greensboro in 2017 where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing, and in 2018 she earned her Masters in Business Administration from East Carolina University. She currently works at Hanesbrands Inc. HQ as a marketing assistant.

Prior to joining TCVA, Lauren coached for Carolina Juniors Volleyball. Lauren joined TCVA for the 2018-2019 season, and in 2019 the West Forsyth High School volleyball program as the assistant JV and varsity coach.

Alex Justice
 


Training Coach 
Alex is in his third year as a conditioning and training coach with TCVA.  He is extremely passionate about athletic conditioning and helping young athletes meet their full volleyball potential.  Alex is certified as a personal fitness and Les Mills International coach.

Alex is currently the boys beach volleyball coach at Davie High School.

Kirstein Childers 
 

Training Coach
Kirstein, is entering her fourth year with TCVA, is currently on maternity leave after her first season as the head coach at North Davidson High School, where she is a Social Studies teacher.

Kirstein started playing volleyball at the age of 14 and quickly excelled at the sport. For the next four years she played for her high school team and Orlando Volleyball Academy in her native Florida. She also competed for the Florida Region's High Performance program. She earned a scholarship to play for Samford University of the Southern Conference and had a successful career as a Middle Blocker.
